What Does it Mean to WALK in your purpose?

What Does it Mean to “Walk in Your Purpose”?

God has provided us with divine tools and supernatural assistance to guide us in this journey called life and demonstrate the fullness of His glory. Before you can operate in your divine purpose, you must first have a clear understanding of what it means to “walk in your purpose”.

Merriam Webster defines WALK(ING)[i] as:

-  to move along on foot : advance by steps

- to come or go easily or readily

- to pursue a course of action or way of life conduct oneself behave

- to be or act in association continue in union

To walk as it relates to our overall existence, can refers to the motives, ideas, or philosophies chosen to govern the decisions and daily routines to advance the quality of life. The Word of God teaches that to walk according to the Spirit of God means to live each day under the direction, influence, and control of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:16 - 17, 25 (KJV)

16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Merriam Webster defines PURPOSE[ii] as:

-  something set up as an object or end to be attained intention

-  resolutiondetermination

-  a subject under discussion or an action in course of execution

When a college student begins the register for the semester, they often select classes from the course catalog. The primary course selections made should reflect the primary area of study in which they desire to get a degree or certification. These selections are made with intent and motive. Likewise, as believers, our purpose is a reflection of the light of God.

Isaiah 2:5 (KJV)

O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Ephesians 5:8 (KJV)

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Therefore, walking in your divine purpose means to make daily decisions and thoughtful actions under the influence and guidance of the Holy Spirit with the intent of completing the divine will of God for your life.

Walking also implies movement, preferably forward movement! Much like the physical act, the spiritual and mental act of walking requires effort, energy, strength, and direction. You cannot advance forward by remaining still or stagnant. The walk can be fast or slow, but it yet requires the action of taking one step at a time. The walk of life towards your destiny is an active process. Physically, there must be strength in the leg muscles (calf, hamstrings, quadriceps) and continual training in order for muscle memory to develop. Even toddlers must progressively learn how to walk. They receive mobility support toys, training sessions from family, or even professional physical therapists (if necessary).

To walk in your purpose means to live each day with progressive forward movement in your divine purpose! We can effectively walk in our purpose by:

1.     Embracing the God’s love in closing what appears to be “good” doors and follow His direction to advance through the “God” doors.

2.     Utilizing the divine tools and supernatural assistance God have given us in this world. (John 17:14-19; 15:26; 16:7)

3.     Taking one step at a time and daily applying the Word of God to experience is anointing and favor throughout life experiences, whither good, bad, or ugly.
